Xmas is upon us ! This year has been incredible in so many ways . It by far has seen more ups & downs than santas sleigh landing on the roofs of your loved ones and delivering gifts in all shapes & sizes . It is however more than that . For me it is a time to take a break from the intense lives that we lead , a chance to catch our breath and to dream.
I would like to share a story with you about a courageous & inspiring lady , she too dreams.Her name is Carol Brill . I met her recently and she made me realise that while teeth are important ; there are many more important things in life. Like the gift of sight . Carol has Usher Syndrome, a devastating rare genetic disease , she only has 3 % sight remaining and her wish is to visit Disney with her lovely little girl and to have those memories before the light fades forever
These are her words ;
“Seeing Disney is a fundraising campaign to help Dubliner Carol Brill realise a dream before completely losing her sight to Usher Syndrome, a devastating rare genetic disease, which causes both hearing and sight loss. With only 3% of her vision remaining, her dream is to see her daughter’s smiles as she celebrates her 8th birthday in Disneyland, Florida, next July. A fundraising target of €10,000 has been set so that Seeing Disney becomes a reality. During the trip, Carol must complete the second stage of participation in a research study at the National Eye Institute, Bethesda, Maryland. Also Carol wishes to attend two major conferences, one in Baltimore and the other in New Orleans, so that she can find out the latest updates on scientific research in Usher Syndrome, for which presently there is no treatment or cure. Fundraising has now reached the first €1000 milestone and it is hoped that if the target is exceeded, then the surplus funds will be used to help Carol acquire a guide dog when she returns from the USA. “ If you would like to make a donation to Seeing Disney, please visit her fundraising page www.gofundme.com/seeingdisney
