Established in 1885, Carew's was setup as an independent Wholesale and Retail Leather Merchant supplying the harness and shoe making trades with leather and grindery components. Situated in the center of Limerick City the business thrived quickly and soon built up a reputation for high quality leathers. The owner, James Carew, had formerly worked as manager with the Limerick Tannery, Callaghan & Sons, who were renowned for the quality of their leathers in the early part of the 20th century. Established more than 75 years ago, James O’Connell is a traditional, family-run, leather goods store in the heart of Limerick City. We stock a large section of high-quality leather goods, from leather wallets, and belts to saddles and other equine equipment. The majority of James O’Connell products are handmade with genuine leather by ourselves in our very own workshop. Our handmade leather goods are made using traditional techniques, passed down from generation to generation. Other leather items and products are sourced from local, highly gifted craftsmen. Irish Hide Designs is owned by Derek McCarthy, a lambskin and hide expert from Limerick. The McCarthy’s have been in the business for over 200 years. Through working with some of the best craftsmen and leather manufacturers in the business globally (we have clients in Poland, France, Italy, Germany, China, USA) we have refined our selection skills. We like to think that we are the best in the field at selecting quality sheep and lamb skins and cowhides. With Irish Hide Designs we have combined our product knowledge with our contacts in the furniture manufacturing sector to produce a range of unique pieces of furniture. Having a passion for all things leather and hide and we want to express our appreciation of these natural materials in our range of furniture and rugs which will be enjoyed and appreciated all over the world. We use quality natural materials carefully selected by us from the West of Ireland. We were recently certified by Guaranteed Irish as producers of a range of products which are 100% Irish. Our aim is to make Irish Hide Designs a strong Irish brand synonymous with quality and design. We are committed to creating furnishings which will look contemporary and timeless.
