We are Galway’s oldest scout group (on the go for nearly 90 years now!) based in Galway city centre. Our den is located in the basement of Ozanam House on St. Augustine Street, just behind the Augustininan Church and a 2 minute from shop street. We have our own section of the building just for us to run our meetings and store equipment. We run regular meetings for all the youth sections of scout here in Ireland, as well as weekend/day activities, depending on the section. Beavers (6-8 year olds) run their meetings on Monday evenings from 6.45pm – 7.45pm. Cubs (9-11 year olds) run their meetings on Tuesday evenings from 7pm to 8.30pm. Scouts (12-15 year olds) run their meetings on Thursday evenings from 7pm – 8.45pm. Ventures (16-18 year olds) run their meetings on Monday evenings from 8pm – 9pm.

Who are we Youth Work Ireland Galway is a voluntary organisation that works with young people in Galway City and the county and has done so since the 1970’s. We do this through supporting communities to set up and deliver youth programmes on a voluntary basis, and by developing services to young people implemented by paid staff. We work in partnership with a number of community groups and statutory bodies in the development and employ 36 staff who with the support of over 300 adult volunteers deliver; a comprehensive and diverse range of services to young people throught the county of Galway. The History of Youth Work Ireland We came from a youth club movement that started in the 1960’s co-ordinated nationally by the National Federation of youth clubs. In the 1970’s the County Galway Federation of Youth Clubs was formed from locally based (federationsor) groupings of clubs and the Department of Education created the Youth Service Service Grant Scheme allowing the recruitment of a Regional Development Officer. In the 1990’s we secured resources from EU funding programmes to develop new projects and become involved in alliance and partnerships both at local projects level and across the city and county.
