What is Amatsu? Amatsu is a gentle form of hands-on physical therapy. It seeks to correct imbalances in the body thus improving movement and relieving pain. Amatsu uses a range of techniques (including soft tissue work, structural adjustments, balance to the organ system and cranial work) based on western scientific principles of anatomy, physiology, biotensegrity and proprioception. Rooted in the ancient martial arts traditions of Japan, Amatsu is a modern adaptation of soft tissue therapy that has been used for thousands of years in Japan. How does Amatsu differ from other physical therapies? Amatsu is more gentle than many other physical therapies. This means it is suitable for a wide range of bodies from newborn infants to the elderly, including people suffering from arthritis and osteoporosis. Unlike some other forms of physical therapy, Amatsu is a whole-body treatment that aims to rebalance mechanical structures (muscles, tendons, ligaments) and energetic structures (joints, cranium, meridians). Amatsu doesn’t just focus on the area of pain, instead it looks at treating the root cause of the pain/imbalance by looking at the body as a whole. How can Amatsu help me? Niall is a registered member of the Acupuncture Foundation Professional Association, the oldest and largest professional body for practitioners of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Ireland, and of the European Traditional Chinese Medicine Association. He is a graduate of Acupuncture Foundation of Ireland in Dublin where he studied under prominent Chinese doctors, Professor Jin Hui De, Dr Jidong Wu and Dr Meng Fanyi. Niall undertook his postgraduate training at the Nanjing University World Health Organization Collaborative (WHO) Centre in China where he was awarded his Licentiate Diploma. Whilst in Nanjing, he studied and worked with eminent Chinese doctors including Dr Li Jing of the Nanjing Municipal Hospital of TCM, Dr Hu Jinli of Jiangsu Hospital of TCM and Dr Han Yan of Jiangsu People’s Hospital. Niall is continually undertaking additional training with international Chinese Medicine experts, and uses a number of forms of Traditional Chinese Medicine, such as Body Acupuncture, Cupping Therapy, Electro-acupuncture, Auricular Acupuncture, Heat Therapy and Cosmetic Acupuncture.
