Dental anxiety (sometimes referred to as Dental Phobia) is a perfectly valid normal physiological (body/mind/emotion) response in a healthy person to past trauma that has never been resolved. A mouthguard (sometimes called a gumshield) is a protective dental device custom made to cover your teeth and gums, shielding against possible injury or trauma and preventing accidental biting of your tongue.
