Stella Maris Secondary School, Tramore

In 1963 the Religious Sisters of Charity opened the first Tramore Secondary School for girls at “Bayview”, Ballycarnane, in a large dwelling house opposite the cemetery. In 1966 the Congregation moved to the much larger house at “Eastlands” on Pond Road. In subsequent years the present Hall was built and some prefabs were added. The enrolment during the 1960's was less than one hundred students. However, by the early 1970's it became obvious that this building was becoming too small for the increasing enrolment, so a new building was sought. Thus in 1979 the present school building was constructed and opened in September of that year. In the intervening years the Sports Hall was extended and an all-weather Hockey Pitch constructed. The school has continued to flourish and serve the people of Tramore ever since and it now has an enrolment of over four hundred and fifty students.
