Dry needling is a procedure in which an acupuncture needle is inserted into the skin and muscle. It is directed at myofascial trigger points in the muscle (or muscles that are in spasm), a palpable tender nodule in a taut muscle. Muscular spasm can be defined as an involuntary contraction of a muscle or muscle group. It is usually the size of a pea and when pressure is applied to the area, tenderness, and referring pain is experienced. Dry Needling is a scientifically proven form of treatment to treat trigger points.
